Daniel Röhn - Violin / Viola
The Headline "Three giants and a young god" appeared in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, after a concert of music by Handel, Bach and Mozart, performed by violinist Daniel Röhn in Munich.? And none other than Ruggiero Ricci declared, having heard the young virtuoso in Chicago: "His playing reminds one of Szeryng and Heifetz!"
Born in 1979, in the third generation of a family of outstanding violinists - his grandfather Erich Röhn was Furtwaengler's first concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic - Daniel received early musical training from his father Andreas Röhn and continued his studies with Ana Chumachenco at the Musikhochschule Munchen.? He sought further advice and inspiration from artists such as Yuri Bashmet, Ivry Gitlis, Anne-Sophie Mutter and Pichas Zukerman.
As a soloist, Daniel Röhn has performed with numerous orchestras in Germany(including the Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the chamber orchestra of the Bavarian Radio, and the Bavarian Radio Orchestra), in the United States, Mexico, Switzerland, France, Scandinavia, England, Italy, Belgium and Georgia.? Among the conductors with whom he has worked are Ion Marin, Zubin Metha and Riccardo Muti.
His vast repertory encompasses the works of the standard violin literature and significant composers from the 20th century.? He recorded for various radio stations, among them BR, HR, WDR in Germany and Radio France in Paris.? His debut CD on the Claves label features the Mendelssohn Concerto.? His first Recital-CD with works by Schubert, Sinding, Paganini, Waxman and others has just been recorded by Claves records.
Most recently he played and conducted the Brahms Concerto at the Culture and Congress Center Lucerne, made his debut in Geneva with the Orchestre de chambre de Geneve, he appeared on Swedish Television, in a Recital from Stockholm, and Lorin Maazel invited him to perform with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra at the "Mozartfestpiele" in Wurzburg and in Munich.? Shortly after he gave several concerts with the same orchestra under Riccardo Muti.? Beside that , he performed at the Rheingau-Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival, several chamber music festivals in France(Tour, Mulhouse, Deauville etc.) and, by personal invitation from Esa-Pakka Salonen, at his Festival 2004 in Stockholm, where the press called Röhn a genius interpreter after his performance of Lutoslawski's Violin Concerto "Chain 2".
Future projects include, among others, performances at the Hollywood Bowl with Esa-Pakka Salonen; at the Cannes film festival with the film music for violin and orchestra; a recital tour for "Rising Stars", which will take him to Carnegie Hall New York, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Musikverein Vienna, Megaron Athens, Symphony Hall Birmingham, Cite de la musique Paris, Palais des Beauz-Arts Brussels as well as further CD recordings.
Daniel Röhn plays the "ex Lobkowicz" violin by A&H Amati, 1617, Cremona, on loan through the generous efforts of The Stradivari Society Chicago.? This unique organization supports the very highest level of string playing by making the most precious antique Italian instruments available to artists of exceptional talent and ability.
