Celebrating the Centennial of Canada's province of Alberta - its history, people,
and diversity - FBQ features in 2005-06-07, two commissioned pieces by Canadian Composer Tobin
Stokes.? The John Ware Suite honors the first
black cowboy in Alberta and Leaning on the wind is a work based
on the poetry of Albertan Sid Marty, whose work explores the
themes of natural history and western Canadian life and culture.? Evoking a sense of
pride in the natural wonders that surround Albertans and describing the hardy and
inventive spirit of Canadians.? This work allows each quintet member to read a
portion of the poetry while the remaining four musicians present the music.

Violinists Marc Ramirez and Olivia Hajioff have extensively concertized throughout the
United States, Russia, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Monaco, Italy, England,
Canada, Mexico and Japan.? Recipients of a Fulbright fellowship, and prizes from
competitions including the BBC Young Musician of the Year, the European Violin
Competition, and the Henryk Szerying Violin Competition, Marcolivia were the only chamber
music finalists in the Concert Artists Guild International Competition in 2000. ?
They have performed as soloists and chamber musicians in many of the world's cultural
centers, including New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington, Los Angeles, Moscow, London,
Tokyo and Mexico City.? The duo are artists-in-residence at the Tokyo College of
Music and are on the faculty of Shenandoah University, Las Vegas Summer Music Festival and
the Dartington International Summer Festival.? Marcolivia is on the roster of the
Millennium Stage at the Kennedy Center and the Touring Artists for the Virginia Commission
for the Arts. They have performed chamber music at the Kennedy Center in
Washington DC, the Ravinia Festival in Chicago and the Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie
Hall.? Marc and Olivia have collaborated with chamber music notables including Leon
Fleisher, Awadagin Pratt and Edgar Meyer.

Dynamic young pianist, Derek Yaple-Schobert has been honored with many awards and
scholarships, some of which have enabled him to study and perform in Europe and the USA.
? Yaple-Schobert interpretations confirm his striking ability to act as the medium
between the composers and his audience.? As a result, connoisseurs, music lovers and
newcomers alike delight in being transported into the far away lands of fjords and trolls
through works by Grieg, Nielsen and von Koch, as well as experience his vision and
virtuosity in a Bach Toccata, a Beethoven Sonata
or a Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody.
In December 2004, he was the featured performer in the first of a series "The
Classical Now" on the Canadian TV Network, "BRAVO".? Critics say he
plays with "elegance and humor", "force and passion", "energy and
personality", qualities that assure an exciting performance by this rising Canadian
star.
